Dubai or Dubayy is one of the seven emirates known as UAE or United Arab Emirates. The emirate's main city is called Dubai City. Dubai is located in the Persian Gulf, on the Arabian Peninsula, between Abu Dhabi in the south, Sharjah in the northeast, and the Sultanate of Oman in the southeast. Dubai is the second largest emirate in UAE after Abu Dhabi and lies within the Arabian Desert. Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum is the ruler of Dubai and the Vice-President of the United Arab Emirates.

Dubai's economy has rocketed in the past few years. Contrary to the common belief, the profit from oil accounts for less than 8% of the country multibillion economy. The majority of Dubai's revenues come from the Jebel Ali Free Zone (JAFZ), tourism and other businesses and investments. The decision to give prominence to tourism, real estate development and home and foreign trade has allowed the expansion of different types of businesses. The Palm Islands of Jumeira, Jebel Ali, Dubai Waterfront and Deira are the largest artificial island complexes in the world. With their villas, golf courses and holiday resorts they attract the attention of world leading investment companies.

The ever increasing real estate market, projects and developments, shopping festivals and the hosting and organization of world and local sports events contribute to the Emirate’s growing revenues and leads to the country becoming a world business hub. The Zone also provides warehousing and distribution services to companies trading in and with the country.
